So yesterday marked the start of year two of uni and I can honestly say I am excited yet very nervous for what this new year has to offer. With starting back I thought I would create a few tips for the people who have started their first year. These tips will be based off my experiences.
First day nerves
Starting anywhere new can be a very nerve wracking time but the first day of university can be very exciting. I found making new friends, meeting tutors and finding your way around a new place daunting but actually it was so much fun and an experience that I will not forget. Its very easy to stay quite withdrawn and not talk to anyone but honestly it actually sets you back if you do that. You have to remember that annoying thing that adults always told you before starting school; “you’re all in the same boat”. While we all have a variety of reactions to new things, most people will be just as nervous/down right scared as you. If you let your guard down just a little bit then you will be surprised just how many fast-track friendships you are gonna make. We did this and although we didn't stay friends with some of them, others we are still pretty close with now!
Lectures and assessments

Lectures and assessments
Organisation
One of the biggest pieces of advice i can give you about your lectures and assessments is to come prepared! It might be a little bit more time consuming to begin with but in the long term i promise it will save you some! Going to lectures with the presentation printed ready saved me more time on writing my notes from the lecture and actually helped keep me more organised ready for each assessment. If you keep all of the lecture notes together, organised as to which week/class it is then it saves a lot of faffing when you need to find it in the future.
Reading
It's a big old pain in the bum when you have lots of reading and OOCA (out of class activities- aka homework) to do but not doing them was a bad idea for me. Those tasks actually come in handy when you're writing your essays/presentations etc. If I’m honest, it also just makes life easier because you spend less time finding x10,000 other theorists, quotes or whatever to back up your point. it really does actually make your life easier so give it a gander if you have been assigned it.
Time
One thing that everyone in our friendship group is guilty of (including us!) is not using our time as wisely. Sometimes you can do something and think “yes, I smashed it!” but if you do what I did and think you have given yourself enough time to write your assignments (if you work for about 8 hrs every day for a fortnight obvs). Naturally, i know that it's really not a good idea to do that and i hope i've actually learned my lesson this time. While you’re not given a lot of time to finish your assignments once you have fully learned everything, it's a good idea to give yourself as much time as possible to be able to get things done.
Try not to worry yourself too much, we have enough stress from daily life without adding to it.
Have a wonderful time.
Love from,
Emily and Louise xx
