Remembrance day is a day for the nation to remember and honour those who have sacrificed themselves for our freedom. Every year at 11am on the 11 day of the 11 month, we perform a Two Minute Silence. That marks the end of the First World War.
The idea of the poppy
The poppy is
- A symbol of Remembrance and hope
- Worn by millions of people
- Red because of the natural colour of field poppies
The poppy is NOT
- A symbol of death or a sign of support for war
- A reflection of politics or religion
- Red to reflect the colour of blood
Wearing a poppy is a personal choice and reflects individual and personal memories.
My Local Remembrance Service
The Royal British Legion march towards the cenotaph playing music to commemorate the occasion.
People gather around the cenotaph to witness the service
